When we say "safe" we mean firm and effective. safe is an incombustible metal box to keep the documents and other material values.\r\n
During the centuries mankind tended to protect their property from damages and fire and of course to hide it from curious persons.\r\n
Egyptians buried the rolls into the deepest darkness of the pyramids, Syrians duplicated significant papers and keeped them in different places in case of their missing they could restore the texts, the Hellenes cut the significant moments of the History onto the plaques of ivory that coud not be burnt or sunk. Caesar kept his manuscripts into iron boxes but discovered that metal smelts under the fire. Medieval feodal lords created the whole underground storehouses and the guards always were on duty. The tradespeople of XV C invented wooden boxesbound with metal that kept the treasures from pirates whos attacks were so usual in the meantime.\r\n
Firstly safes were just locked. The first keys made of wood were discovered by archaeologists in an ancient tomb of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. In the Ancient China there were wide spread the padlocks made of copper and cast iron. The padlock was usually embellished with a pattern or some drawing or could be in the form of some animal as dragon or dog. The padlocks with greating lines were a worthy gift present. The first padlocks\' keys the masters made of solid wood and ivory and with the time the metal prevailed more and more as the main material.\r\n
Together with the tecnology development of the metal work and appearing of new tools the construction of the locks got more complicated. There spread new kinds of devices appaled to strengthen the firmness against safecrackers, among them were ledges with hollows and hidden secret keyholes. Meanwhile the keys themselves remained invariable till XVII C.\r\n
The real safe epoch sprang from the middle of the XVIII C. on the threshold of the industrialisation of Europe. This periode there appeared the first savings banks and with them an inevitable appearing of the boxes to keep money.\r\n
The first safes were discovered in Ebgland of the XVII C, with increase of the number of capitalists. A good old trunk was turned into vertical position and equiped with door and shelves. The safes were made of steel and provided with solid locks. They were extremely effective till invention of the oxyacetylene torch. After there was widely adopted two metal layers additionally copper or concrete or sand interlaid.\r\n
Without any exageration the safes were highly valued interior pieces. Usually they were embelished with wrought emblems and painted and gilded, the design reflected the period and style: light barocco and rococo styles, authoritative Chippendale, mysterious Gothics, smart Biedermeier. A little bit later the exterior got more attention
