Antique sculpture
Antique sculpture. France, XIX c.
Sappho of Mytilene - poetess of Ancient Greece, a native of the island of Lesbos, a representative of the aristocracy, headed the women's community dedicated to the goddess of love. She was called the tenth muse by the Philosopher Plato. She sang odes to love, the gods, the beauty of the soul, the physical body, and femininity. She wrote hymns of love, elegy, and created her own stanza. Her works were set to music, and she herself played musical instruments. Her name is covered in a veil of rumors and conjectures, many of them still have no confirmation or facts, no less shrouding her image in mystery and making it more and more attractive.
