Vintage paired sconces
Paired designer sconces at Stilnovo. Metal frame with tinted wood decor. Lampshades - frosted glass. Italy, 1960-70s
The Italian factory Stilnovo was founded by designer Bruno Gatta in 1946 in the industrial suburb of Milan - Lainate. In response to the aftermath of World War II - at a time when Italy was focusing on reconstruction - Gatta dedicated his factory to producing innovative lighting elements.
In the post-war period, one of the most famous Italian designers, Gaetano Sholari, worked in the factory, taking on the role of a designer to develop indoor lighting fixtures.
As the economic recovery took place throughout Italy, Stilnovo became known as a prestigious and leading brand for both public and private spaces.
One of the most outstanding achievements of this futuristic era was the Periscopio (1967) floor lamp by Danilo & Corrado Aroldi, the Treiedo spotlight (1970) and the Topo wall lamp (1970) by Joe Colombo, the Lucetta table lamp (1970 ) by Cini Boeri.
