In 1853, the painter and sculptor Frederik Wilhelm Gröndal and the merchant brothers Meyer Hermann and Jakob Hermann Bing signed a lucrative contract to set up a new porcelain factory.
The company's goal was to create porcelain figurines from bisque, copying the neoclassical work of the famous Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.
