Antique cloisonne vases, China
Very tall imperial vases in the cloisonné technique were in a private collection. Magnificent paired vases are made of copper and enamel, the vases are mirrored, the images on the surfaces mirror each other. The vases depict chrysanthemums and peacocks. China, 40-50s.of the XXth C.
The peacock denotes wisdom and immortality, royal power, the favor of the emperor. Chrysanthemum is one of the "4 Noble Plants" along with bamboo. plum mei and orchid. It is the symbol of autumn and the flower of the ninth moon.
