Antique Japanese teapot
Antique teapot. Made of porcelain and decorated with images of gingko tree petals. The kettle comes with an original gift box. Japan, XX century.
Gingko means "silver fruit" in Japanese. In Japan, gingko is revered as the sacred tree of temples and shrines. Its unusual two-lobed golden leaves resemble a fan, and the seeds of the plant are used in Japanese cuisine. There is a legend that, when dying, the wet nurse of Emperor Naihaku-Kojo asked to plant a gingko on her grave so that her soul could live in this beautiful tree.
