Antique I mari plate
Antique Imari plate. Made from high quality porcelain. There is the author's signature on the reverse side. Japan, XX century.
Completely hand-painted with bright motifs. Imari Porcelain is actually a Japanese porcelain manufacturing site on the island of Kyushu in the province of Hizen. One of the various styles of Imari porcelain found there is the Kirande style, also known as "golden brocade". It can be recognized by the use of three specific colors (cobalt blue, saffron red and white) as well as by a specific iconographic register (numerous floral motifs, animal and mineral elements). Because Japan was a closed country for three centuries, between the 17th and 19th centuries, and because their Imari porcelain was highly valued, China adopted Imari motifs for European buyers.
