The porcelain factory Hertwig & Co was founded by Christoph Herwig in 1864 in a town with the cute name of Katzhutte (Cat's House). The production of dolls brought worldwide fame to the factory, but disagreements in the management and the consequences of the economic crisis in post-war Germany actually bled the company. In the 1980s and 1990s, the factory ceased production and was demolished in 2011.
