The famous Bing and Gröndal factory is a vivid example in the history of Danish porcelain of a promising community of an original artistic idea and an entrepreneurial idea. In 1853, the painter and sculptor Frederick Wilhelm Gröndal, together with the merchant brothers Meyer Hermann and Jakob Hermann Bing, signed a lucrative contract to set up a new porcelain factory.
The goal of the company was to create porcelain figurines from bisque, copying the neoclassical works of the famous Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.
