Paper stand "Kalavinka"
Antique napkin and/or paper stand "Kalavinka". Made of metal, covered with patina. On the side parts, among the foliate pattern, there are images of two mythical birds Kalavinka (迦陵頻伽) with female heads. According to Buddhist iconography, these creatures are depicted on temples and ritual objects. The Kalavinka bird is depicted as a bird with a female head that dances and/or plays the flute. According to the "Lotus Sutra" (in some translations "Lotus Sutra"), Buddha speaks with the voice of the Kalavinka bird. Japan, 20th century.
