The Hertwig & Co porcelain factory was founded by Christoph Herwig in 1864 in the town with the charming name of Katzhutte (Cat House). The factory gained worldwide fame thanks to its doll production, but management disagreements and the effects of the economic crisis in post-war Germany effectively drained the company of its resources. The factory ceased production in the 1980s and 1990s and was demolished in 2011.
