An old, rare mirror. made in the technique of eglomiz. France, XX century.
The term "eglomiz" appeared in France in the 18th century in honor of the master Jean Baptiste Glomi (Jan Baptiste Glomi), who used an unusual painting technique "under glass" using gold and silver foil. The technique itself appeared long before Z.B.Glomi made it so popular. In the Middle Ages, eglomise was used for decorating church utensils and decorations. Later, the use of eglomise was mainly used to design mirrors, clocks and furniture parts. The technique is complicated in execution; things made using painting "under glass" are very elegant and highly valued.
