Jacques Courtois (1621-1676) - French painter, engraver, master of battle scenes. The son of a little-known artist Jean-Pierre Courtois. Having received the first painting lessons from his father, Courtois still went to Italy in his youth, where he joined the soldiers in order to better get acquainted with military life and draw battle scenes. The artist’s works are often quite careless in execution, but always full of life, drama and movement. Some of the author's works are stored in the Hermitage and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
