LC4 couch by Le Corbusier
The couch is designed by the famous French designer Le Corbusier. Chrome metal, wood, leather.Europe, XX century.
Le Corbusier (1887-1965) - French architect, artist and designer. Became world famous for his innovation in architectural projects.
While designing the villas, Le Corbusier also created furniture for them. One of the most famous pieces of this period is the LC4 couch.
The first model of the couch was created in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perien in 1928 for the library in the villa, and the following year, the author slightly changed the design and presented the product at the Salon d'Automne in Paris. The architect himself called the exhibit a "rest machine", as this anatomically adjustable chair is equipped with a mechanism that adjusts the tilt of the upper part of the couch, allowing for reclining or sitting.
The first attempt at mass production was not very successful due to the complexity of manufacture and the high price, as well as the too modernist look. But since 1964, the couch has become a real bestseller in the design world.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, the LC4 has been exhibited in many museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Pompidou Center in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
