Vintage paired sconces Mazzega
Vintage paired sconces of the Mazzega factory. Murano glass, chromed metal. Designed by Carlo Nason. Italy, 1960s
Carlo Nason comes from one of the oldest Murano glassblower families. Born in 1935 in Murano, Venice. His father, Vincenzo Nason, ran the famous glass business NasonMoretti, so from a young age, the youngest Nason was trained in the art of glassblowing, studying the properties of the material and craft techniques used in molding and decorating glass.
The very first items designed by Carlo Nason date back to 1959 and are part of the collection of blow molds made by V Nason & C. Today they are stored at the Glass Museum in Corning, New York.
In 1965 he was invited to the Mazzega factory, where he worked until 1980. During this time, the designer created many iconic lighting designs that remain in demand today.
Nason's works have been exhibited for decades at a number of art and design museums and galleries in Paris, Milan and New York.
