Medusa the Gorgon is a mortal and very beautiful girl according to Ovid's version, one of the Gorgon sisters, the daughter of the Gorgon and Keto, with whom, according to legend, the lord of the depths of the sea, Poseidon, fell in love. Unfortunately, she could not escape his love even in the temple of the goddess Athena, where she ran to flee from the sea god. She suffered punishment from the Olympian gods for desecrating the temple: Athena disfigured her face, and her hair became snakes, since then anyone who came across Medusa face to face died only from one glance, turning to stone. Medusa's blood was given to Asclepius to heal people, and her head served Perseus faithfully in the fight for Danae, her mother, who was persecuted by King Polydect.
There is the Gorgoneion - a talisman mask depicting the head of Medusa, it was applied to clothes, weapons, tools, jewelry, coins. In Ancient Russia, there was a maiden with snake-hair, the maiden Gorgonia, the sorcerer managed to behead her, received a miracle cure that defeated any enemy.
