The Neo-Russian style (national romanticism, Russian modernism) arose at the end of the XIX century, when modernism came to Russia from Europe. At that time, there was a strong fascination with ancient national art in the Russian Empire. Thus, the interest in folk art and the asymmetrical forms characteristic of modernity with floral motifs formed the basis of a trend with a national romantic bias, called the neo-Russian style. The Abramtsevo estate near Moscow is one of the centers of development and dissemination of Russian Art Nouveau.
