The French sculptor Gaston Veveno Leroux (1854-1942) attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna for twenty years and studied with the director of the Academy, Karl Kundman, until 1877. Since 1893, he taught as a professor of sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Bordeaux.He was especially known as an “orientalist,” and regularly exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon (1880s).He received the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1908, as well as several medals at the Paris Salon and the World Exhibition in 1885 and 1889.
