Set for playing chess Bauhaus (Bauhaus) in the style of constructivism. Maple, layswood (it is often called "serpentine tree", or "silk tree", one of the most beautiful types of wood). The set includes a board - a playing field, figures in a box.

Constructivism is distinguished by its striving to combine functionality with elements of artistic expression, the task set was solved not with the help of decorative elements, but with work with material and form.

Bauhaus is a higher school of construction and artistic design, which existed in Germany from 1919 to 1933. Its followers sought to make manufactured goods affordable, beautiful, and as convenient as possible in everyday life.

Gradually the Bauhaus decided that new chess was needed! Old shapes have a problem: they are difficult to create, expensive and take up a lot of space. They are symbolic, moreover, the symbolism is not associated with the game, it has a militaristic style, religious, monarchical. Joseph Hartwig was entrusted with developing the design of new chess, and this task did not seem difficult to him: he needed to remove the extra ornament, reduce the volume, indicate on each figure the path of its movement, a certain symbolism, and it turned out perfectly. About 16 options were thought out. Thus, chess has turned out that will not offend a representative of any religion or views with its appearance, it is outside of culture and timeless.

32 figures have been simplified in such a way that there are squares, crosses, circles that illustrate the course of each figure. If the base of a classical figure is a circle, then the Bauhaus figures are inscribed in a square. pawns and rooks are represented by pieces of different sizes. A large rook, the king's figure is a cube, crowned with a cube and points with angles in all 8 directions - the king moves in all directions. The cross-shaped elephant is a symbol of diagonal movement. The queen in the shape of a ball has endless possibilities in movement. The figure of a horse consists of two halves in the form of the letter "L". If you put it on any of the 4 sides, it will look like a corner.
