Original antique box. Made of porcelain. Hand-painted with floral motifs. Blue, gold and red rich colors are characteristic of Imari (Arita) porcelain. The box consists of four detachable parts, three of which act as shelves and storage plates, and one is the lid of the box. The box can be used not only as a place to store small accessories, but also as an original way to serve snacks to the table. There is a workshop mark. Japan, 20th century.

Imari is the general name for porcelain, which was produced since 1616 in the Japanese village of Arita for export. The products received the name “imari” thanks to the port of Imabari, from which they were sent to Western Europe.

Initially, the craftsmen imitated the Chinese style, but gradually the Japanese style developed, and porcelain products acquired new distinctive features. Masters worked for generations, creating works of art that had a significant influence on such European factories as Meissen, Worcester, Dutch Delft porcelain, etc.

Imari (Arita) ceramics are characterized by complex painting and bright colors. Often the surface was divided into sections, which were also densely filled with ornaments.

Imari porcelain became one of the most popular collectibles in Western Europe and Russia in the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as during the Art Nouveau period.
