Curule chair comes from the Latin expression Sella Curulis, it is a type of seat in ancient Rome, which was used by the highest government dignitaries. It was a folding chair with X-shaped legs. Usually made of ivory. its name, he most likely received from the chariot (currus), in which the magistrate was taken to the court. Subsequently, it became the sign of the position of all higher ("curule") magistrates or officials, including the consul, praetor, curule aedile, dictator, equestrian, interrex, censor, and later the emperor.
