In 1948-1953 he studied at the Moscow Art and Industrial School named after M.I. Kalinin. In 1956 he graduated from the Higher Pedagogical Department at the college. He worked at the Studio of Military Artists named after M.B. Grekov since 1956. Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1978. In 1985 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

The works of Sergei Georgievich Antonov bring up love for the Motherland and its army. His works were successfully exhibited in missile garrisons, some of them became the property of military camps and museums.
