Antique sculptural composition "The Rape of the Sabine Women"
Antique sculptural composition "The Rape of the Sabine Women". Bronze. Europe, 19th century
Fine group of bronze sculptures in honor of Jean de Boulogne (Giambologna). "The Rape of the Sabine Women" is one of the most beautiful and technically complex sculptures in the world, the plot of which refers to the Sabine War, a legendary period in the history of Ancient Rome. Three intertwined bodies, two men and a woman, spiral upwards, and the woman tries to wriggle out of the arms of the young man standing over the older one. This is an absolute masterpiece by the Flemish sculptor Giambologna. The sculpture was made according to the original in the Florentine Loggia of Lanzi, in Piazza della Signoria, on a square base of green marble. Timeless decoration for your interior.
