Antique plate "Hercules and Antaeus"
Antique plate "Hercules and Antaeus". The battle between the son of Zeus and the titan is made in colorful majolica technique. In the midst of the hot Libyan land and the cloud-covered sky, the climax of the duel is depicted. Tired Hercules understands how to defeat a powerful enemy who revels in his invincibility and has killed many husbands. The hero guessed that before him was the son of the Earth-Gaia itself, which gave him strength. Then Hercules lifted Antaeus above him and he lost his strength. On the reverse side there is the stamp of Deruta - a city with a rich history, famous for its ceramics. Italy, XX century.
