The sculpture "Hippomenes Scattering Golden Apples", created by the French sculptor Guillaume Cousteau in 1714 in conjunction with the ancient sculpture "Atlanta", is one of the greatest works of art of our time. This amazing sculptural composition depicts the legendary hero Hippomenes throwing golden apples to defeat Atlanta in the competition. The sculpture of Hippomenes is of striking beauty and grandiose scale. The original work was made of marble and conveys dynamics unsurpassed. Today this sculpture can be seen in the Louvre. At the statue, every muscle and nerve of his body is visible, motion frozen in tension. Guillaume Coustou was one of the leading French sculptors of his time, and his Hippomenes sculpture has become one of the most famous works of his career. It demonstrates his mastery of the material and his incredible sense of proportion and movement. His work with marble and his ability to create such a realistic and lively sculptural composition was incomparable.
