Antique sculpture "Daikoku with a mallet". Made of metal with a composite coating. The hieroglyph "福" is inscribed on the god's clothes, symbolizing happiness and good fortune. Japan, 20th century.
It is believed that the god Daikoku calls well-being, wealth, luck and money into the house with a mallet. Sometimes a mouse is depicted together with the deity, which gnaws a hole in bags of rice, an attribute of the god, and the rice grains, scattering, turn into monetary wealth.
