Antique vase "Underwater World"
Antique vase "Underwater World". Made of ceramic. France, first half of the 20th century.
Theo Perrault (1856-1942) was a French sculptor. Born in Arcian, a village in the Puisaye pottery region, Pierre Basile Théodule Perrault was seemingly destined to become a ceramist. As a young man, he left his small homeland to study in Paris, then lived briefly in London, working as an artist, but returned to Arcian between 1892 and 1894, where he came under the influence of the school of the renowned ceramist Jean Carriès. He then collaborated with Georges Hoenschel, Emil Grittel and Paul Jeannenet. Perrault first participated in a major exhibition in 1907, presenting a series of vases at the Salon de Nièvre. Many of his creations were richly decorated with Art Nouveau motifs related to the natural world. In 1912 he abandoned his work as a ceramicist and retired to Lyon.
