Europe, 20th century.Jidřich Halabala (1903–1978) was a prominent European architect and designer, theorist, and publicist. He played a crucial role in shaping modern housing culture in Czechoslovakia. Born into a family of cabinetmakers, this determined his future. After training in his father's workshop, he graduated from the vocational school for woodworking in Valašské Meziříčí. His next steps led him to UMPRUM in Prague, where he studied architecture, specializing in furniture and interior design. In the 1930s, Halabala and his colleagues created a production program that uniquely combined Bauhaus principles with the graceful forms of Art Deco. The designer began working with modular furniture and became known for these simple, ergonomic solutions.
