The sculpture "Pallas Athena." The sculpture itself is made of patinated bronze and is mounted on a red marble column crowned with a spherical base. The girl is depicted in a traditional pose of antiquity, known as contrapposto (chiasmus). Her right hand is confidently raised, holding a spear—an attribute of the warrior goddess—while her left hand is lowered, resting on a shield. The shield is adorned with a Gorgon head, symbolizing the warding off of evil. Europe, early 20th century.
