The company initially began as a small workshop run by the adventurer Philipp Rosenthal. He grew up in a wealthy family, the son of a porcelain and glass entrepreneur. However, in his youth, following an emotional impulse, he moved to North America, where he held more than a dozen jobs and different fields over the course of several years. He eventually returned to his native Germany and, with the money he earned in the United States, opened his own porcelain painting workshop. In the early 20th century, the company established itself on the international stage thanks to innovative technological developments and the high skill of its artists and designers. In the 1920s, the company expanded production, introduced new decorative techniques, and expanded beyond Germany, becoming a supplier of elite porcelain to international aristocratic and cultural circles.
