Okimono "Samurai with swords"
An antique sculpture of a samurai with swords. Made of bronze. The warrior is dressed in a kimono with a belt, behind which are tucked empty scabbards. The samurai is armed with a long katana sword and a short wakizashi blade. The golden kimono is decorated with images that repeat the motifs of kamons, the family coats of arms of Japan. On the reverse side of the work there is a name marking "Yoshimitsu". The statue is placed on a wooden pedestal decorated with through-carving. Japan, late 19th century.
Yoshimitsu Hō is a late 19th- and early 20th-century Tokyo-based artist. His works can be found at global auctions and in art galleries of the Meiji era (1868-1912).
