Andrei Volkov was born in Moscow in 1944. He studied at the Stroganov Moscow Higher School of Art and Design (metalwork department). The artist's creative method is artistic metal welding, where the sculpture acquires a unique expressiveness, combining industrial technique with painterly depth.

His works have been featured in national and international exhibitions, and the sculptor himself has been awarded a diploma from the Russian Academy of Arts. Volkov's small sculptures are held in museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Serpukhov, and Tarusa. The sculptor also has large-format and monumental works, including a fountain in Libya (designed in 1985, when the artist visited the country as part of a delegation building a nuclear center), a façade decoration for the "Young Guard" bookstore in Moscow, a three-dimensional mural at the Main Post Office in Vladivostok, part of the entrance to the "Zori Stavropolya" hotel in Pyatigorsk, and numerous monuments in Tarusa. His first solo exhibition was held in 1984 at the Serpukhov Museum, and later several exhibitions were held at the Central House of Artists in Moscow. Volkov's work was also featured at the Historical Museum. Solo exhibitions were regularly held at the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop Theater. In 1995, the artist had a solo exhibition at the Richmond Art Museum (Indiana). Volkov's exhibition activities also included his works being exhibited in the UK, Germany, France, Finland, and Italy.
