Antique chest of drawers of the seminaire subtype. Made of wood, painted and varnished. 8 boxes. Europe, twentieth century.

The history of the seminaire piece of furniture - a tall narrow chest of drawers - begins during the French Heyday. The seminaire first appeared in the 18th century and was intended for storing various items in bedrooms. The name “seminier” comes from the French word “semaine” - meaning “week”, which in turn indicates the ability of the chest of drawers to be used for storing personal items and linen. The name is due to the traditional number of drawers in such a chest of drawers, but this rule is not always observed.

Today, seminiers are classic and elegant pieces of furniture that add charm and sophistication to any interior. They can be used in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways or even bathrooms. In modern designs, chests of drawers are often made from a variety of materials, including wood, metal or even glass. Subsequently, during the French Revolution, the appearance of the chest of drawers was simplified. However, seminaires remained popular due to their versatility and functionality.
