Antique fireplace screen, brass, embossed. Netherlands, beginning of the century. Made in the Renaissance style, in the manner of heraldry dating back to the 16th/17th century. The screen is made in the form of a coat of arms, on the medallion of which, under the crown and ribbons, there is medieval knightly armor with a shield, which depicts a lion, a symbol of power, courage and might. Two lions hold a shield with their paws, their mouths are open, the lions are ready to repel an attack. The lion is a symbol directly related to the nobility, along with knightly armor. Instead of tails, lions have lilies, the fleur-de-lis is a well-known symbol of high origin. On the screen is the motto that usually accompanied noble families, here it is translated as “Commitment gives birth to power” (Promise, i.e. the word gives power).
