Rare sculpture "Buddha" Guanyin - Bothisattva Avalokiteshvara, Nepal, late 19th early 20th century.Made of copper alloy - (bronze), decorated with semi-precious stones (turquoise, ruby, emerald, black sapphire) and covered with gold.Sculpture of rather large size with detailed study of all elements, hand-chased.Presumably, this sculpture was made in a single copy on an individual order for a Buddhist temple in Nepal.In European museums there are stylistically similar items made in the XII century.The slender Bodhisattva is depicted sitting with one leg dangling in ardhaparyankasana, his right hand in vitarkamudra, and his left in varadamudra, finely cropped hair is gathered under the tiara in a high bun at the crown, skillfully braided into narrow braids, laid in ribbons and loops for hanging, in the center of which the image of Buddha Amitabha, sitting in dhyanasana, and fall on the shoulders behind elongated ears, decorated with earrings, a necklace decorated in the form of semi-precious stones and clouds, armbands and dhoti.


Avalokitesvara (in Tibetan: "Chenrezig" or "Avalokita"), Avalokite-shvara means "compassionate look" or "Lord looking from above", "compassionate eyes". He manifests and embodies in his appearance infinite love and boundless compassion, help and sympathy for all living beings. The most popular deity in Tibetan Buddhism or the most important bodhisattva, followed by Manjushri. Once the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara was one of the disciples of the Buddha - Shakya Muni.
