Antique fabric panel with ceramic insert. The image is dedicated to one of the most popular artistic subjects in Japan - the prince's carriage from The Tale of Genji. Underglaze and overglaze paintings. The work has the signature "Golden Dragon Furnace". Japan, XX century.

"The Tale of Genji" is a literary masterpiece of the Heian era by the authorship of the court lady Murasaki. Murasaki wrote the novel for over fourteen years and completed the last 54 chapters in 1022. The book is dedicated to the life of a kneaded character, Prince Hikaru Genji.

The main theme of the novel is romantic - it is (mostly) Genji's relationship with women and his way of comprehending the complexity of the human personality. The search for answers in women and himself, through which the hero turns from a carefree adventurer into a seeker of truth. It is noteworthy that women and change are combined in the story about Genji's relationship with his own wife, who, like the author, is called Murasaki.
