The love story of Rama and Sita dates back to the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, written in Sanskrit. The Ramayana (Journey of Rama) describes Sita as an incarnation of the goddess of fortune Lakshmi. Sita is the moonlight emanating from the month, giving coolness, her husband, Rama, is the month itself, an avatar of Vishnu. Just as the moonlight is inseparable from the month, so the wife follows her husband no matter what happens along the way.
