The Fo dog is the personification of male (in this case) energy. Usually, the male individual presses the globe to the surface, while the female individual presses the calf to the surface with its paw. On the globe is a dragon, a symbol of wealth, happiness, strength and health. One of the most powerful symbols of Eastern culture.
Images of the dog Fo, according to the beliefs of the inhabitants of the Japanese islands, had the ability to drive away evil spirits and all sorts of troubles. Fo dogs were quite common in Far Eastern art in general and Japanese art in particular, due to the popularity of this character.
