Vintage vase, Nabeshima-yaki
Vintage vase. Made from porcelain. There is a marking "鍋島忠山", confirming that the vase belongs to Nabeshima-yaki products. Japan, XX century.Nabeshima-yaki ware is an exceptionally high quality ware produced in the Arita region. This type of tableware was originally made for the Nabeshima clan to be used for personal use and as gifts. The decor on the vase corresponds to the Chinese technique of painting porcelain "dukai", this technique, like many other things, was borrowed by Japanese masters from the Chinese.Typical Nabeshima ware first appeared around 1700 in the Okawachi kilns, where other wares continued to be made at the same time. Production continued until the end of the 19th century, with similar pieces being made by descendants of the craftsmen elsewhere. This production continues to this day.
