Antique figurine "The Abduction of Proserpina", porcelain, underglaze and overglaze painting, Meissen manufactory, there is an underglaze stamp in the form of blue crossed swords. The composition is made according to the model of the porcelain sculptor Johann Joachim Kaendler (1706-1775), a master of the German Rococo era, who headed the manufactory for more than forty years. Germany, XIX - XX century.The figurine illustrates the abduction of the goddess Proserpina by the god Pluto. The image is taken from the original statue, made in marble by the Italian sculptor Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini, and located in the Borghese Gallery in Rome.The myth of Persephone and Pluto is also reflected in Greek mythology, when the god of the underworld Hades, also known as Pluto for Rome, kidnapped the beautiful daughter of Demeter and Zeus, Persephone, making her his wife and queen of the Underworld. According to legend, Persephone spends six months with Hades in the Underworld and six months with her mother.
