This antique vikizashi sword/dagger is crafted entirely from bone and decorated with scrimshow carving. The tsuba is a maru-gata shape with a round outline, and the handle and scabbard are decorated with traditional Japanese motifs (seigasaiha, tatewaki, shippo, etc.). Despite the material, the shape resembles a classic vikizashi—a traditional long, pointed blade with a smooth cut. Such blades were popular in Japan during the Edo period.
