Shigaraki is considered one of the six ancient kilns of Japan, along with Bizen, Echizen, Tokoname, Seto, and Tamba. Shigaraki ware was particularly popular during the Edo period, when, driven by the development of trade, a wide variety of items were produced, such as teapots, clay pots, sake bottles, and water jugs.
