An antique sculpture, "Dragon Boat with Pagoda." This model of a dragon boat with a pagoda on the deck is made of wood and covered in cinnabar red and black lacquer. The structure consists of six parts. A model of the boat with a dragon-shaped latrine rests on four tall legs. The dragon boat is an element of three traditional Far Eastern festivals, originating from the Ritual Calendar. Dragon boats and the dragons themselves, as masters of the water element, symbolize power and prosperity. Expert opinion available. Japan, late 19th century.
