Large vase in the "bianhu" shape
A large, rare flask-shaped vase made of porcelain. The vase is shaped like a "bianhu" (Chinese: "抱月"), which can be translated as a "pilgrim's bottle" or "wine vase." This design was brought from China to Japan by Buddhist pilgrims. Such vessels were first made during the Ming Dynasty. Vases of this shape are also called "moon flasks." In Chinese tradition, the full moon is a symbol of prosperity, peace, and family ties. Asia, 20th century.
