A rare, decorative antique figurative clock in gilt bronze, attributed to the master Louis Goret (L. Goret) and bearing his signature on the dial. France, late 18th century. The clock is executed in the Louis XV style, utilizing the Boulle marquetry technique. The workshop of Louis Goret was active during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI. Louis Goret was an 18th-century French horologist who was active in Paris from 1754, creating figurative and mantel clocks in ormolu (gilt bronze). He also specialized in the production of pocket watches with gold cases—often featuring double, openwork, filigree-decorated casings. The clock case is adorned with tortoiseshell marquetry inlaid with gilt-brass elements in a foliate pattern. It is further embellished with cast gilt-bronze mounts, including acanthus leaves, scrolls, and rocaille motifs. The dial consists of individual enamel cartouches, with the maker’s signature—"L. Goret a Paris"—inscribed across the upper and lower sections.
