An antique sculpture-panel in the shape of a fan. Made of bronze. Japan, second half of the 20th century.

This fan depicts the main characters of the Japanese Takasago legend — Jō and Uba. They are the spirits of ancient pine trees growing in different places but united by love. They are depicted as a married couple with a broom or rake, which they use to collect pine needles. Under the moonlight, these spirits take on human form to live a long life together and die at the same hour.
