Sculpture "Diana"
The sculpture "Diana" is made of patinated bronze. Diana, or Artemis, is identified with the symbol of purity and harmony with nature. Becoming a goddess embodies serene strength and grace. She holds the hound with one hand and holds the bow with the other. On the base of the sculpture there is a signature of the author of the form: Edward McCartan. American sculptor Edward McCartan (1879-) grew up in a family of Irish descent and showed remarkable artistic talent from an early age. He studied at the Pratt Institute and then at the Art Students League of New York, where he learned the classical principles of sculpture while embracing the elegance of modern decorative and applied art. The period of study in Paris deepened his understanding of the French traditions of fine arts, McCartan's mastery reflects the dialogue between classical ideals and the emerging Art Deco style of the early 20th century. The works of Edward McCartan can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington and the Newark Museum of Art. Variations of this statue of the goddess Diana are also found in private collections, public gardens and parks.
