Antique paired fufu-yunomi bowls, Kutani (fufu means spouses, a pair for spouses). Marked. Comes with an original tomobako (storage case). The cups have lids and are hand-painted in polychrome with images of pheasants and flora. Japan, 20th century.
Yunomi is a traditional Japanese ceramic teacup without a handle. It is usually tall and traditionally held with both hands. Yunomi are intended for everyday tea drinking, unlike teacups used for the tea ceremony. Fufu-yunomi are dedicated to a married couple ("Husband" and "Wife"), with one cup being larger and the other smaller.
