Antique sculpture "Samurai." The work is made of gilded bronze. The warrior sits in traditional Japanese armor with two swords—a katana and a wakizashi—tucked behind his obi belt. The do (breastplate) is a metal plate breastplate that protects the chest and abdomen from blows. The sode (shoulder plates) are metal plates attached to the armor to protect the shoulders. The kotegaki (arm protection) is lightweight vambraces, and the suso (greaves) are constructed of metal plates. The two-part laminar ("barrel-shaped") cuirass is made of horizontally arranged steel plates. Japan, 19th century, Meiji era.
